The Crankers, who are a bold mix of New Wave and Stoner Rock, span two countries; including the cities of Barranquilla (COL) and Miami (USA), featuring Raul Avendaño (Lead Vocals), Jairo Macias (Rhythm Guitars, Chorus) and an entire family of musicians including Emanuel Gamarra (Lead Guitars, Chorus), Sebastian Gamarra (Bass) and Hans Gamarra (Drums, Chorus).

History of the Band

In 2013, The Crankers recorded their first EP album entitled “First Trip” with Producer Omar Sanchez (Sicotropico, Leon Bruno). The songs “Insatiable”, “Going through the Night” and “L.A. Ride” were mixed by Jesus Ortega and mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Frank Arkwright (who has worked with bands such as Coldplay, Oasis, Radiohead, and The Smiths)

The Crankers have been performing live for the last couple of years and have played in many important venues. They’re easily recognized by their direct, powerful sound and have shared stages with international bands like Sonia (Uruguay) and nationals like Sicotropico, TELEBIT, Circus Funk, Oh’laville, MNKBSNSS, Koyi and K-Utho, SKAMPIDA, El Otro Grupo, De Bruces a Mí, Masacre, Alfonso Espriella, Los Poetas Ácidos, Le Muá, and Tubará Reggae.

In October 2014, the band embarked on their first promotional tour of Colombia, entitled, “First Tour” which promoted their premiere album, “First Trip”. They played in some of the most important cities in Colombia such as Cartagena, Medellin, Bogota and Barranquilla. Since early last year, the band has also participated in the Caribe Rock Festival (Santa Marta), the Indie Music Festival 2014 and 2015 (Barranquilla), the “Gira Anaranjado”(Orange Tour Barranquilla with Telebit and Oh’laville), and a few other festivals.

Notably, The Crankers have received several awards including “Highlightened Band” awarded at the Miche Rock Festival in 2012, and again in 2014, they secured the title as one of the best rock bands from the Colombian Caribbean coast. What’s more, in 2014, they were the featured artist on the Fete de la Musique (Alianza Colomba Francesa) compilation CD and Bunka Radio in 2015.

The new EP

Nowadays, The Crankers are promoting their second EP album, called “Cranky”, which was recorded in 2015 at Afro Music Studios in Barranquilla under the general production of Jaime Alzate (Los de Adentro), Omar Sánchez (Sicotropico, Leon Bruno), Sound Engineer Álvaro Blanquicett and with the post-production work of  Sergio Carcassi (Grammy Award Nominee in 2013).

“Cranky”contains the songs “The Escapist”, “Jigsaw”, and “High Tide” (my personal favorite). Both EP’s are available on various music streaming platforms including Deezer, Spotify, iTunes, Shazam, Google Play, Rhapsody, and Guvera. Also, be sure to catch them on the music program, Demo Estereo, on Radionica between 4pm and 6pm this Sunday, May 8th.
