This parade has the same shiny costumes and is a glittery version of the regular parades of the two last days. Put it this way, it may not sound like much, but in fact the Fantasy parade is one of Carnival’s most visually impacting events, as it packs in several of the audience’s favorite wow factors: beautiful, very lightly dressed dancers, incredibly elaborate costumes, and sparkling lights moving to the rhythm of seasoned performers.
Marimondas, monocucos, congos, garabatos, all present in their showbiz alteregos in an oneiric rendition of the “what would happen if Barranquilla’s Carnival and Las Vegas ever crossed paths?” hypothetical question.
Despite being significantly lower in attendance than Saturday’s or even Sunday’s parade, the crowd was still enthused, cheered at every dance group, and went wild at the Queen’s appearance on her chariot, and even wilder when she stepped down from it to dance directly on the asphalt stage.
As always, Barranquilla Life brings you closer to the best of the parades through images.
